Born in Lebanon in 1980 Nayla Tabet spent her teenage years in the South of France surrounded by forests and woodlands. It is there where she developed a fascination for trees.
She makes tree sculptures using fine metal wires and various types of paper. Every tree tells a story through its shape, its colours and its paper cuttings. She gets her inspiration from the world around her; a book, the news, the human condition, a colour, a shape, or an emotion. "I believe trees are like a soul you look at to interrogate, to find answers, to heal or sometimes to escape to. They are like a silent, strong, wise and even forgiving companion I always want to be with". One of Nayla's aim is to show the importance of a greener planet around us. Trees play a crucial part in the survival of species including our own. The need of better eco conscious exploitation of this planet, the reduction of over consumption, the slowing down to simpler lives and a better understanding of our needs are all intertwined messages she likes to express through her trees. After graduating with a BA in Economics she went to a business school in France and obtained a Master in Management. She also graduated from the Paris institute of Political Studies. Art however has always been her passion so she enrolled in a one year intensive course at Christies Education in Paris and was awarded a diploma in History of Art and the Art Market from the Renaissance to the present days. She now shares her time between London, Paris and Beirut where she works both with art galleries and on private commissions. See some artwork |
